Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge 2012
The 2012 Challenge, being held on the 5th August, will have eight different categories to enter suiting all cyclists.
Eight Levels of Entry:
1 – 100 km solo cyclists male.
2 – 100 km solo cyclists female.
3 – 100 km team event, (unisex), with 2, 3 or 4 cyclists all cycling the 100km.
4 – 100 km relay event, (groups of 2 or 3). Each cyclist completes approximately one third of the course, with both transfers taking place at the intersection of North Bank Road and the old Pacific Highway.
5 – 100 km Tandem and Recumbent Bikes, (unisex).
6 – 60 km solo cyclists male.
7 – 60 km solo cyclists female.
8 – Family Ride
Registration
1. Saturday 6th August, from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm at TS Vendetta.
2. Sunday 7th from 6.30 am to 7.45 am at TS Vendetta.
3. Family entries as above and up until 9.30 am on Sunday 7th at TS Vendetta.
Start and Finish Times:
- Groups 1,2 and 3, (100km), start at 8.00 am
- Group 4, (relay), start at 8.05 am
- Group 5, (tandems and recumbents), start at 8.10 am
- Groups 6 and 7, (60 km solo), start at 8.15 am
- Group 8, (family), start at 10.00 am adjacent to the Pet Porpoise Pool

0 – 10 km Route Description
The ride from Coffs Jetty to Raleigh is flat to gently rolling, interspersed with the occasional moderate rise. The first 500m from Jordan Esplanade, takes you left onto Marina Drive, over the railway line and onto Harbour Drive where another 1.5 undulating kilometres brings a left turn at the roundabout onto Hogbin Drive.
Continue 3.6km on Hogbin Drive, through the Education Campus Roundabout and a further 3km to the Toormina Roundabout where you will be directed left onto Sawtell Road.
10 km – 20 km Route Description
A 3km ride, with a couple of undulations, takes you down the main street of Sawtell and onto Lyons Road.
The 4.8km section of Lyons Road ends when you cross the Highway overpass and left turn which puts you on Pine Creek Way (old Pacific Highway).
20 km – 30 km Route Description
Continue 9.5km, through the village of Bonville, ArcherfieJd Rd Roundabout and Bongil Bongil National Park, Climbing a total of 55m to Mailmans Track Roundabout. From this higher point, you emerge from the forest to enjoy the descent and a pleasant ride along the Bellinger River.
After 4km you’ll reach the junction with North Bank Road (waypoint “H”) which is the change point for both legs of the relay. The old Bellinger River Highway bridge is 400m further on and the roundabout on the Eastern end of the bridge (waypoint “D”) is the turning point for 60km riders.

Teams
Entering in a team or relay event is a great way to get school friends, family and work colleague’s together, working for a healthy purpose. Bicycling is not only fun but your fitness level will also improve.
Steps to organising a team
- Create a team – Simply ask your school friends, BUG friend or workplace colleague to join you on their bikes to get team members on board. Once you have the team, appoint a Captain. The team captain must register everyone at entry time.
- Cycling preparation – Then get out and do the cycling preparation.
- Ride on the day – Ride the 2012 Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge on the 5th August 2012 with your team! Round up your team on the day to ensure a team photo then send it to our web site or put it on your own facebook.
- Create a team – Simply ask your school friends, BUG friend or workplace colleague to join you on their bikes to get team members on board. Once you have the team, appoint a Captain. The team captain must register everyone at entry time.
