Yesterday Mr.Andrew Fraser, MP, State Member for Coffs Harbour, as the delegate of the The Hon. George Souris MP, NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing and Minister for the Arts, Officially Launched the NAB Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge 2012 which will take place on Sunday 5th August.

A large number of guests were present to witness the Launch, including representatives of the sponsors and other stakeholders of the Event

Mr.Keith Rhoades, Mayor, Coffs Harbour City Council and Mr. Mark Troy, Mayor, Bellingen Shire Council, both spoke strongly in support of the Event and of its great regional promise for the future.

Local Nabbusiness Banking Executive, Ian Smith said “In Coffs Harbour, we are extremely proud to be a major supporter of the NAB Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge. This Event has the potential to be a major National Event and a focal point for the local community with a strong focus on participation, safety and competition which is something we can relate back to our own business.”

The Official Event Jersey is in the final stages of design and the selected design should be posted on the Event website in a matter of a days.

Coffs City Rotary and the Rotary Club of Bathurst Daybreak Inc., have entered into an arrangement to co-operatively market the cycling events which they have each founded and promote being respectively Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge which will be held this year on Sunday 5 August and NAB B2B Cyclo Sportif to be held on Sunday 22 April 2012.

The latter event offers a range of rides from the Extreme Challenge, Blayney to Bathurst 162km to the Family Challenge of 11km.

Why not consider taking the NAB B2B as well as the Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge this year?

It has also been nominated in the ‘Special Initiative or Event to Promote Cycling’ category of the 10^th Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards the principal sponsor of which is the National Heart Foundation. The winner will be announced early in the New Year.

We are to receive $10,000 which will go towards marketing and promoting the 2012 Event outside the Coffs Coast, including internationally. A physical start will be made on the latter at Lake Taupo, N.Z. next month.

With one of the objects of this challenge being to raise money for worthwhile Rotary Charities, Coffs City Rotary has distributed the net proceeds of the inaugural 2010 Event as follows:

•  Salvation Army (local) – $2,000
• Northern Kids Care (helping children from homes in Northern NSW where one or both parents have a mental health problem) – $2,000
• ROMAC (providing dignifying surgery for facially disfigured children in the Oceania region)  – $3,000
• Rural Fire Service (local) – $1,000
• Men’s Shed (local) – $3,000
• Waratah Centre (local, providing care for the aged including Respite care) – $5,000
• 2CHYFM (local) – $1,000
• Meals of Wheels (local) – $1,000

TOTAL: -  $18,000

But for some payments to charities and other non-profit organisations that provided manpower for the 2011 Event we are yet to distribute its net proceeds. That will take place over about the next 8 months.

Your invaluable ongoing participation in this challenge has and will continue to assist in raising these much needed and appreciated charitable funds for which I thank you on behalf of all concerned.
