The bcu Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge has again been nominated as the ‘Community Event of the Year’ in the Coffs Harbour City Council’s 2012 Australia Day Awards.

It has also been nominated in the ‘Special Initiative or Event to Promote Cycling’ category of the 10^th Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards the principal sponsor of which is the National Heart Foundation. The winner will be announced early in the New Year.

Without you, your fellow participants and the other supporters of our Cycle Challenge the nominations would not have been possible. We appreciate your invaluable help for which we say ‘many thanks’.

Preparations are well advanced for our next Challenge on Sunday 5^th August 2012. Please come along again and bring your cycling friends and supporters. We love to see you again and again and will try hard to make you feel very welcome and to see that have a great time.

Personally and on behalf of the dedicated and hardworking Rotary Cycling Committee which I have the honour to lead, I wish you and those nearest and dearest to you a very healthy and happy Christmas and a New Year which brings all the good things that you care to wish for.

Bid successful for NSW Regional Flagship Events program for 2012

We are delighted to say our application under the NSW Regional Flagship Events program for 2012 was successful.

We are to receive $10,000 which will go towards marketing and promoting the 2012 Event outside the Coffs Coast, including internationally. A physical start will be made on the latter at Lake Taupo, N.Z. next month.

With one of the objects of this challenge being to raise money for worthwhile Rotary Charities, Coffs City Rotary has distributed the net proceeds of the inaugural 2010 Event as follows:

Salvation Army (local) – $2,000
Northern Kids Care (helping children from homes in Northern NSW where one or both parents have a mental health problem) – $2,000
ROMAC (providing dignifying surgery for facially disfigured children in the Oceania region) – $3,000
Rural Fire Service (local) – $1,000
Men’s Shed (local) – $3,000
Waratah Centre (local, providing care for the aged including Respite care) – $5,000
2CHYFM (local) – $1,000
Meals of Wheels (local) – $1,000

TOTAL: - $18,000

But for some payments to charities and other non-profit organisations that provided manpower for the 2011 Event we are yet to distribute its net proceeds. That will take place over about the next 8 months.

Your invaluable ongoing participation in this challenge has and will continue to assist in raising these much needed and appreciated charitable funds for which I thank you on behalf of all concerned.

The Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge committee have arranged for several attractions to entertain participants and their families during the day up to the presentation ceremony at the end of the event.

Coffs Coast Community Circus – “Coffs Coast Community Circus, incorporating a circus workshop environment, provides juggling things (balls, clubs) diablos, devilsticks, stilts, rola-bolas, twirling things, hula-hoops, etc.

World Rally Car Display – There will be a World Rally Car on Display.

The bcu Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge, on Sunday August 7, will contribute towards CycleNation members overall CycleNation Ranking. “Results [from the bcu Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge] will be recorded and timed, and be available for inspection on the website shortly after the conclusion of the ride.”

Early Bird Discount Date Extended

As a lucky rider in this years event will win a Specialized Roubaix Comp Compact bike the event committee have extended the Early Bird 15 % discount for entry fees and merchandise items to the 30th June.
